Privacy Policy

The short version

  • Microphone audio is processed only while a translation session is running and is streamed to Google's Gemini API to produce the translation. We do not record, store, or listen to your audio on our servers.
  • Your conversation transcripts are stored only on your device. We have no copy and no access. You can delete any sentence or any conversation at any time in the app.
  • Our servers store a single anonymous install identifier together with your remaining translation-time balance. No name, no e-mail, no account.
  • We show no ads and we do not sell data. The app uses Google Firebase Analytics for anonymous usage statistics; this website sets no cookies.

1. Who is responsible

The controller for the data processing described here is:

2. Audio and translations (the app's core function)

When you start a translation or listening session, audio from the microphone is streamed in real time to the Google Gemini API (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd.) to recognize speech and produce translations, and — for finished sentences — to the Google Cloud Translation API to display a back-translation, and optionally to the Gemini API for the in-context correction feature ("magic fixer") and for generating conversation titles and summaries shown in your local history. Google processes this data as our processor under the Google Data Processing Addendum; Gemini API data handling is described in Google's Gemini API terms.

No audio leaves your device while no session is running. The microphone permission is used exclusively for this purpose.

3. What stays on your device

Transcripts, conversation history, AI-generated titles and summaries, and all app settings are stored in the app's private storage on your phone only. Uninstalling the app deletes them. We cannot access them.

4. What our servers store

To grant free welcome minutes and meter paid translation time, our backend (Google Cloud Run / Firestore, region Frankfurt, Germany) stores:

  • a randomly generated install identifier (UUID) that contains no personal details,
  • your remaining translation-time balance and usage timestamps.

Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). This data is deleted upon request and becomes meaningless once the app is uninstalled (the identifier is then orphaned).

5. App analytics

The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect aggregated usage statistics (e.g. which features are used, session counts, device model, app version, coarse region) so we can improve the app. This data is keyed to a resettable app-instance identifier and never includes your conversations, transcripts or audio. 6. Purchases

Translation-time packs are sold through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google; we never see your payment details. We receive a purchase confirmation token used solely to credit your balance.

7. This website

This website is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google). Server logs (IP address, time, requested page) are processed by Google for operation and security (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR in the EU/EEA, CCPA/CPRA in California), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict the processing of, and receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. We do not sell personal data. Since our server data is keyed only to an anonymous install identifier, include the identifier shown in the app's settings when you contact us so we can locate your record. EU/EEA users may also lodge a complaint with their data protection authority.

9. Data deletion

Delete on-device data directly in the app (per sentence, per conversation, or by uninstalling). To delete your server-side balance record, e-mail support@understand-everything.com — we delete within 30 days.

10. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we knowingly collect no data from them.

11. Changes

We will update this policy as the product evolves (e.g. when purchases launch) and change the date above. Material changes will be announced in the app.
